CALL FOR PRESENTER PROPOSALS
The Curated Curl is proud to present the second annual SOulFully Textured, A Natural Hair Experience. SOulFully Textured is an experience and celebration of naturally textured hair. The celebration is for those that embrace their naturally textured hair (whether it's wavy, curly, kinky or coily) and is specifically designed for African, African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans and Afro-Latinas, and others with textured natural hair. The event will include hair product demonstrations and techniques and will also showcase and embrace the beauty of natural hair, and harness the energy of the natural hair movement. Our attendees desire presenter topics that are meaningful and designed to empower them in all aspects of their lives in order for them to live their best lives. They are coming to experience the newest trends in healthy hair care, beauty, and fashion; learn tips on healthy living, and embracing self; and to celebrate all the textures of the natural hair culture.
SOulFully Textured is a place not only to celebrate but also a place to educate and to erase the stigma associated with textured, especially afro-textured natural hair. For decades, afro-textured natural hair was not considered beautiful, causing many to relax their hair with dangerous relaxers in order to adopt Anglo/European beauty standards. A quick google search will illustrate examples of school kids being disciplined in school for wearing protective hairstyles and the dangerous chemicals found in hair products targeted to African Americans. Females from the African diaspora have been taught that the kinky, coily hair they were born with is not desirable causing harmful, life long stigmas. SOulFully Textured is designed to showcase the beauty of embracing one's natural self and changing the beauty standard one celebration at a time.
